As Thanksgiving approaches, the November 2024 Food Insecurities Newsletter highlights how we can make a difference in our communities through volunteering. The newsletter offers guidance on finding local soup kitchens, food pantries, and community organizations where you can donate or serve during the holiday season. It also provides several helpful links to organizations like Feeding America, United Food Operation, and Mountaineer Food Bank for those interested in volunteering.

In addition to volunteer opportunities, the newsletter emphasizes self-care strategies for the holidays. It provides tips on managing holiday stress, setting realistic expectations, and prioritizing mental well-being. The advice includes planning and prioritizing tasks, setting boundaries with family, practicing gratitude, and taking breaks to recharge.

A special Thanksgiving recipe for homemade apple cider is included, featuring a blend of fresh apples, oranges, and spices—perfect for a cozy holiday drink.

MountainHeart Celebrates a Season of Learning and Community

As we step into the new school year, MountainHeart Community Services is excited to welcome back our students and families. Our classrooms are alive with joy, creativity, and growth, as our teachers and home visiting staff work hard to create enriching experiences for children. Whether it’s through hands-on arts and crafts or engaging story times, every day is a new opportunity for learning and fun.

October is full of exciting events, including our annual Fall Bash on October 9th and 10th, where families can come together for seasonal fun. We also encourage parents to get involved with their children’s learning through activities like letter recognition lessons, color sorting, and motor skill development. These experiences not only foster cognitive and emotional growth but also build stronger bonds between parents and their children.

Additionally, MountainHeart was honored to receive the prestigious Pathways to Excellence Gold Award at the 2024 National Community Action Partnership Annual Convention. This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff, leadership, and volunteers who strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of West Virginians.
